Creating Task Templates

Design structured forms that define how field data should be collected.

Task Templates are the foundation of the task system in Carbonleap. Before a task can be assigned, a template must exist. Templates define the structure, fields, and data types required for consistent and high-quality data capture.

Creating a template is a guided, multi-step workflow that ensures every template is clear, usable, and aligned with your farm’s operational workflows.

When to Create a Template

Create a new task template when you want to standardize:

  • Field inspections

  • Irrigation checks

  • Cover crop maintenance

  • Pest or disease scouting

  • Operational work logs

  • Any recurring activity requiring structured data

Templates ensure data consistency and simplify task assignment for your team.

Template Creation Workflow

Creating a Task Template is a 3-step wizard:

Step 1 — Set the Context

Provide the basic definition of the template.

You will enter:

  • Template Name A clear name (e.g., “Irrigation Line Inspection”, “Cover Crop Maintenance Log”).

  • Template Description A brief explanation of what this task is meant to capture.

These details help your team understand the purpose of the template and assist Carbonleap AI in generating structured form fields.

Step 2 — Design the Template

This is where you build the structure of the task.

You can either:

  • Use the AI Assistant to generate form fields automatically, or

  • Manually add question fields with full control over input types.

Supported Form Field Types

  • Text inputs

  • Numbers

  • Dates

  • Dropdown selections

  • Multi-select options

  • Yes/No toggles

  • Free-form notes

Additional Capabilities

  • Mark fields as required or optional

  • Group fields for better structure

  • Add multiple sections (e.g., “General Info”, “Maintenance Details”)

  • Add custom labels and helper text

Your template should include all information a worker must provide for the given task.

Step 3 — Preview & Publish

The final step shows a full preview of how the form will look to users.

Here you can:

  • Review field order

  • Validate required inputs

  • Ensure clarity and readability

  • Confirm the template matches your operational needs

When ready, click Finalize & Publish. Publishing a template makes it immediately available for task assignment.

Editing Templates

After publishing, you can:

  • Update the template structure

  • Add or remove fields

  • Adjust labeling or instructions

Changes do not affect tasks already assigned but apply to future tasks created from that template.

Where Templates Appear

All published templates appear in the Manage Tasks listing. From here you can:

  • Edit templates

  • View template metadata

  • Assign tasks based on the template
