Step 2: Add Fields
Drawing Field Boundaries and Configuring Field Details
In Step 2 of the onboarding process, you define the fields that make up your farm. Fields are the fundamental analytical units in Carbonleap — every satellite metric, weather model, phenological stage, and alert is calculated at the field level.
This step allows you to add, edit, and remove fields before activating your farm.
Adding a Field
To add a field, select “Add Field” and draw the boundary directly on the map. You can create one or multiple fields within the same farm.
Each field requires:
A drawn boundary
A crop type
A crop variety (optional, depending on crop)
Carbonleap automatically calculates acreage based on the boundary you draw.
Drawing Field Boundaries
The field boundary tool allows you to:
Click to place vertices around the field
Adjust or move points as needed
Close the polygon to complete the boundary
Accuracy is important because:
Satellite metrics are clipped to this shape
Acreage determines subscription tier
Weather and growth models depend on exact geometry
Editing or Deleting a Field
During onboarding, you can:
Edit the shape at any time
Change crop or variety
Remove a field completely
You can also save one field and continue working on another without leaving the page.
How Acreage Is Calculated
Field acreage is:
Automatically computed from the drawn polygon
Summed across all fields in the farm
Rounded to the nearest whole acre for subscription estimation
This value is shown in real time as you adjust boundaries.
Working With Multiple Fields
If your property contains multiple blocks or parcels:
Add each block as a separate field
Name them clearly for easier navigation later
You can toggle between fields during the onboarding flow
During monitoring, you can switch fields quickly using the field selector on the Monitor Farm dashboard.
What Happens Next
After finalizing your fields, continue to:
Step 3: Select Subscription
In the next step, Carbonleap uses your total acreage to estimate the appropriate subscription tier for the farm.
